  • Taiko dev wants your input to localize Taiko DS/Wii
Nintendo newsblog Cubed3 interviewed head producer of the Taiko no Tatsujin series, Ken Nakadate.

And Ken wants your input on bringing Taiko to the U.S. AND Europe. Here's the excerpt:

    Quote:
AR: Rhythm games have been extremely popular in the West, including the Bandai Namco-developed Donkey Kong series, as well as the extremely Japanese-themed Elite Beat Agents. Given this fact, will either DS Taiko no Tatsujin or the forthcoming Wii game be considered for a US or European release?

KN: We want the customers in Europe and US to enjoy the Japanese Taiko drum. The schedule for US or European releases is undecided but we would release them if we receive a lot of requests from US and European customers!

  • DDR:UK Tournament Finals - A cornucopia of information for the masses!
Good afternoon everyone. I've got my fingers in gear a little this year, and as such I have a lot of stuff for those of you interested in our tournament scene!

First off, we have the (hopefully) finalised rulesheet available. The rulesheet is available for viewing here, whilst there is a thread for it's discussion here. If I've missed anything or am confusing anyone, please say so in that thread.

Secondly, I've sorted out the final betting market for the tournament. With everyone confirmed I can happily say you've all got fixed odds. I've merged the current betting thread with the new finals thread and you can all play about with points and see who can get richest by the time the tournament comes around by clicking here! Please play the game everyone. I want to do this again next year, but with a bit of help and prizes announced for all beforehand. I thought it was a good little game at least >_>

Thirdly! Although I've already posted it as community news, there is a topic for the viewing and discussion of the bracket for the finals
available here. All discussion and feedback in there please!

Finally, I'm in the process of collating all of the results of the regionals and putting them in all in one thread for easy access by everyone. I'm just trying to format them all in the same way though as to not bring about confusion when reading them. Although not finished yet, I'll update this post with a link when that thread is available, and create a new thread for it in the tournament section.

For now, that is all! Seems a fair update so far, and I hope everyone has enjoyed the regionals so far and is looking forward to the finals! There will be more information coming as I process it, but if anyone has questions or feedback in the meantime post away, and I'll do my best to answer.

    NEW CHARACTERS

    - Zero (Male)
    - Bonnie (Female)

    NOTES

    - Standard mode is the only selectable mode at the location test.

    - The Extra stage judgement is very tight. 4 steps rated Good or lower will fail you.

    - To get an extra stage you must play SABER WING or a song on Random and get a AA. The difficulty you play on seems to determine what difficulty the extra stage is at.

    - The difficulty rating scale has been expanded to 20. Old songs have adjusted ratings.

    - Sort categories at the test consist of: ABC, DIFFICULTY, BPM, PLAYER'S BEST, TOP 30, 1ST, 2ND, 3RD, 4TH, 5TH, MAX, MAX2, EXTREME, SuperNOVA, SuperNOVA 2, DDR X

    - The cabinet is an all in one design. The space on either side of the screen seem to be where the e-Amuse readers and USB ports will be installed into later. (They were not available for the location test.)

    - The new monitor is a deluxe widescreen monitor, Arrows scroll in the middle leaving in an open space on the left and right outside portions of the playfield.

    - "Screen Filter" option has been added allowing players to darken the area where the arrows rise so they show up better and blend less with the moving backgrounds.

    - Many older songs have generic videos at the test.

    - Shock arrows have been added to some songs (Flight of the phoenix is one). Stepping on one causes combo break and life decrease.

    - AAA grade is obtainable at 990,000 points. Just like SupeNOVA 2

    - There are no reported timing problems as of yet.

  • E3 announce Hottest Party 2 Hands-on for the Wii
    Quote from: GameSpot
In honor of Dance Dance Revolution's 10th anniversary, the series is getting a number of new releases on various platforms. DDR: Hottest Party 2 is the second DDR title for the Wii and, like its predecessor, demands that players gesture with the remote and Nunchuk in addition to matching their steps on the DDR mat. A brand-new setlist and a few tracks catered to series newcomers make DDR: Hottest Party 2 an appealing title for experienced move busters and dance-floor first-timers alike.

A remake of the lesson mode should be interesting, let's hope it no longer includes returning to the dreaded middle square...

    Ok guys, discussion time! :D

Best news? None of them are covers! That's right, all masters! Including a track from Guns n Roses new album to be released later this year, AC/DCs 'Let There Be Rock!'. and of course the awesome vocal styling of System of a Down ;)

But wait, that's not all! As well as this, MTV will be releasing 20 more master tracks that they couldn't get onto the disk in time as free downloadable content. AND for all of us with Rock Band 1, we will be able to export all of our music from it to Rock Band 2 (with a Hard Drive of course), and not have to go through the hassle of switching disks every time we wish to play our old beloveds.

Anyways, being E3 I shall post more press release goodness for you all...

    Quote:
    - Unrivaled Blend of Classic, Developing and Emerging rock acts including Pearl Jam, Metallica, Allman Brothers, Motorhead, Devo, Jane's Addiction, Megadeth, Paramore, Modest Mouse and more.
    - Rock Band 2 is the first and only video game to feature the music of AC/DC. It includes their epic rock anthem, "Let There Be Rock”
    - After 14 years since Guns N’ Roses last official music release, Axl Rose selects Rock Band 2 to debut official new track, “Shackler’s Revenge” from the highly-anticipated album Chinese Democracy
    - For the first time ever, music from American music icon, Bob Dylan, is featured in a video game with “Tangled Up In Blue”
    - Fender Stratocaster Controller takes on a new authentic look plus adds a reinforced strum bar, quieter buttons, wireless functionality and a built in calibration tool that automatically sets your AV setup to an ideal setting for maximum rock.
    - Drum set goes wireless while also featuring quieter, velocity sensitive drum pads and a metal reinforced pedal.
    - Microphone showcases authentic styling and weight.
    - Fender Telecaster Controller features soft buttons with lower action to help you shred faster than ever.
    - Fender Bass Controller, the first bass guitar controller ever, takes the shape of the Fender P-Bass with extended length, tuning pegs and a split strum bar to replicate finger-bass style picking.
    - Full-sized Squire Stratocaster Guitar Controller multiplies the authentic guitar experience by featuring a controller built into an actual Squire Stratocaster body.
    - Cymbal Expansion Pack is a straightforward but amazing upgrade to the Rock Band 2 drum set featuring add-on cymbals.
ION Drum Rocker, a real electronic drum kit that functions as a game controller, brings the Rock Band fantasy to life featuring a simple substitution that takes the drum kit from a controller to a real instrument.

Add that to all the news in this thread, and things are shaping up pretty good!

So, the questions is.... With all of these features, the franky jaw-dropping songlist, and the userbase already set out for them... What will Konami and Activision do to topple this?

  • The Qualifiers are over.... Preperation for the finals begins!
That's right! Many of you have worked and trained hard to earn the right to fight for the title of UKs Best DDR player, and now all of the qualifiers are over we can finally reveal what has happened...

First off, 16 people have qualified for entry. More than 16 people actually seeded, so we've taken the best 16 scores and I think we have a pretty good lineup. I'm hoping the 16 people here can actually come, and if they can't thne heads will be rolling!

Also for your statistical pleasure are the seeding scores of all of the individuals, along with some other small pieces of information about them.

    Here be the seeding informations!

And here be the bracket. Look closely, as you can all see how you're going to have to perform on the day...

So yes. All the tournaments have culminated as this being the finals in October, and I must say what a finals it is! I'm looking forward to seeing most of these matches, and I hope a lot of you will be there to see them too and cheer on your favourites, or locale!

25th and 26th October is the Expo dates, don't miss it!

On a side note, the writeup of the London Tournament will be appearing in the tournament section soon, along with the new betting for the finals. Lots will change there!

  • Konami is Sueing Rock Band?!
    Quote from: GAMESPOT
Nearly a decade ago, Konami released the first installments in the DrumMania and Guitar Freaks series, which used drum and guitar peripherals. Though neither franchise was a huge hit, the Japanese publisher did sell millions of its dozen-plus Karaoke Revolution games worldwide.

Given Konami's primogeniture in the instrument and karaoke genres, the publisher was likely none too happy when developer Harmonix combined drums, guitars, and singing into one game--Rock Band. Since its release last November, the MTV Games-published, Electronic Arts-distributed title has sold over 3 million $179 bundles and over 10 million song downloads. MTV's parent Viacom went as far as to name-check the game in its annual earnings report in May, crediting it with increased profits.in

Now, it appears Konami is expressing its displeasure in legal form. According to a report on the Bloomberg news service, this week the Japanese publisher filed suit in a Marshall, Texas court against Harmonix, MTV Networks, and Viacom. Its suit claims that Rock Band violates a series of US Patents registered in 2002 and 2003 relating to "simulated musical instruments" and "musical rhythm-matching game."

Bloomberg's report did not outline what Konami wanted in terms of compensation from the suit. However, the legal action's timing comes shortly after the announcement of Rock Band 2 and Rock Band: Japan as well as the release of Rock Band: Special Edition for the Wii. It also comes less than two months after Konami announced its own peripheral-based, guitar-drum-vocal title, Rock Revolution, due out later this year.

Looks like Konami can't accept a company making more money on what they tried to start :P

  • Rock Band 2 - A plethora of updates!
Typical isn't it. We wait months and months for the first game to wing it's way here from the US, and without time for most of us to even unpack the instruments from the box and break our first drumstick Harmonix go and release a tl:dr press release crammed with information about the sequel!

Now this is a long press release, so I'll just bring out some of the most interesting and important bits for those of you who don't want to read the whole thing...

"Rock Band 2 will feature more than 80 tracks on disc"
And not only that, they'll all be master tracks, and all of the Rock Band 1 downloadable content is confirmed to be compatable! Also of note, instuments from Rock Band 1 will be compatable with the sequel, so don't worry about having to spend another fortune.

A September release on the Xbox 360 for those lucky Americans. Later in the year for the Playstation 2 and 3, and the Wii!
There doesn't seem to be anything in there about an EU release, but are you really surprised? We have only just gotten the first one after all, heh.

"Rock Band 2 offers new and dynamic online modes that will connect the entire Rock Band community in more ways than ever before."
The best part of this? "World Tour is now online!" The perfect feature for those of you who may have found the socialising cause by the original world tour a bit of a distraction!

    "Drum Trainer
A true teaching tool that gives players a step-by-step lesson through the basic beat and fill vocabulary any real world drummer would know.

    Thank god!

System of a Down have music in it on the disk!
It's important news to me, at least >_>

On top of those pretty major things are loads of the little things that make everyones life easier and more enjoyable. Real time alerts of when your scores are beaten, customisable band setlists, hassle-free instrument changing for your created character, more in-depth Band Battles with friends... the list is seemingly endless! All I can say is roll on Rock Band 2, as I certainly can't get enough of this game!
